Among the three creations of the Martinican poet, playwright, and essayist Aimé Césaire (1913-2008) present in the posthumous book recently published by the Coleção Encruzilhada by Editora Cobogó, the play “The Tragedy of King Christophe” discusses the historical reality of Haiti at the beginning of the 19th century and analyzes the notions of colonial domination, post-colonial nation, leadership, and identity through the situation of that country after French colonization. After the reading, participating artists, the anthropologist Jaqueline Lima Santos and the director of the collection, José Fernando Peixoto de Azevedo, establish dialogue based on the work.
