The system of government is at the center of the discussions. The frequent attacks on institutions of power and the rise of the extreme right in the world have put democratic practices in check. How do we reinforce sociopolitical actions in the exercise of art, on and off the stage? How to be democratic in the face of so much volatility and insecurities?

LÁZARO GABINO RODRÍGUEZ (MEX)

Master in Theater from the University of the Arts in Amsterdam. Research around the fiction of personal memory. His projects take the final form as plays, texts, films, and radio productions. Since 2003, he has been part of the collective Lagartijas Tiradas al Sol. In cinema, he acted in more than 40 films.

ANDRÉ AMÁLIO (POR)

artist, actor, and director used to procedures of the documentary, autobiographical theater, memory, post-colonialism, and colonial past. He received a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. He did his master’s and a doctorate in English universities. He taught at the University of Minho in Braga and at the Faculty of Performing Arts in Prague. He founded the company Hotel Europa with Tereza Havlíčková.

JOSÉ FERNANDO PEIXOTO DE AZEVEDO (BRA)

Ph.D. in philosophy from USP, professor at the School of Dramatic Art and the graduate program in performing arts at ECA-USP. He published “Eu, um Crioulo” for n-1 editions. He coordinates the Encruzilhada collection, by Editora Cobogó. In 1997 he founded the Teatro de Narradores; he wrote and directed works with the group Os Crespos. His recent works are “Um Inimigo do Povo,” “As Mãos Sujas,” “Navalha na Carne Negra,” and “Trauminhalt.Manifest.”

FRANCIS WILKER (BRA)

scene artist, director, curator, researcher, and professor of the postgraduate program in arts at the Institute of Culture and Art of the Federal University of Ceará (ICA-UFC). Doctor in Performing Arts from the School of Communications and Arts at USP. He is a member of the collective Teatro do Concreto from Brasilia. Author of the book “Encenação no Espaço Urbano” (Editora Horizonte, 2018).
